Signs and symptoms of VTE

You should have a high index of suspicion for VTE when encountering the signs and symptoms of a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or PE, as VTE can cause serious long-term consequences and may be fatal if they lead to a serious PE.1 These symptoms are non-specific and may vary from patient to patient.2,3

DVT
  • Leg pain


  • Swelling


  • Tenderness


  • Discolouration


  • Pitting oedema


PE
  • Shortness of breath


  • Cough


  • Chest pain


  • Tachycardia


  • Hypotension


  • Low-grade fever
